Fast forward through Wonderland

Our journey in Iceland continued for another five days. We used every minute of it wisely by exploring as much as possible of that beautiful and magical landscape. To truly appreciate this country you must see its nature. So dress according to the weather and get out there and discover as much as possible. There is no bad weather in Iceland, only bad clothes.

When we got out there, surrounded by nature in it’s purest form, our eyes couldn’t get enough of everything, in order to fill the thirst from our souls. The ring road that embraces the island, makes it easy to find all of Iceland’s hidden gems. That black silk ribbon road took us in a ”back in time” experience, where geysers sprout from geothermal fields, ancient glaciers that covered the footprints of our ancestors with layers and layers of silver dust, are ruling their kingdom silently, half hidden in the clouds.

You will be transported across vast old lava hills covered in velvet green moss, which by the way, you should treat very gently, as it is very delicate and if damaged takes ages to recover. There was no damage done when taking the pictures. If you want to get cool pictures there are ways to get them without vandalizing the environment. Besides the long sleeping volcano craters or craggy mountains, there are beautiful coastal drives that give you access to amazing waterfalls and springs. The lost-looking farms and villages that you will pass by are the hosts of the cosiest restaurants and coffee shops, where you will always be welcomed with a heart-melting smile. These farms, are also the places where you can see the legendary Icelandic Horses. Brought to Iceland by the Vikings centuries ago, the Icelandic Horse is one of the oldest breeds of horses in the world.

At the end of all this, warm your body in the surreal Blue Lagoon and then chase the Aurora to brighten up your spirit. We chased it for a few nights but the ski never seemed to be clear enough to make this phenomenon visible to our eyes, but the whole try to catch the Northern Lights action was quite fun.

We used this website http://en.vedur.is/weather/forecasts/aurora/  which is practically an Aurora Forecast for Iceland that tells you in real time where on the map, it is the most visible. The one we saw was only on a 2 scale, so it was basically a fair green hue dancing in the sky for short periods of time.

This frozen fairy put its spell on us so gently that we irremediably fell in love with her. We turned home with an aching desire to go back… Enjoy the whole story through the pictures that I have prepared for you.

Sincerely, A.
